Does Amazon Deliver on Sunday?

Does Amazon deliver packages on Sundays? Read more below.

Amazon has completely changed the game when it comes to online shopping – especially when you’re talking about delivery speed.

It wasn’t all that long ago that most online shoppers were happy with packages arriving within a week or 10 days. Anything faster than that was a bonus or cost a small fortune!

Then Amazon came along and shook the industry up from top to bottom.

Not only do they offer absolutely fantastic prices on almost anything and everything you can imagine. But they also offer incredible shipping options that are lightning fast – with the Amazon Prime second day, next day, or (sometimes) same day delivery options leading the charge.

It’s tough to beat free shipping on almost everything with a Prime membership, especially when you don’t have to wait any longer than a day or two for your packages to arrive.

These lightning fast shipping speeds, though, obviously created a certain level of expectation with customers these days. If their packages take any longer than a day or two to arrive people get a little bit antsy – and that includes over the weekends.

Yes, Amazon has almost trained people to believe that their package will be there in a day or two matter what. Even if a day or two is a Sunday!

But does Amazon deliver on a Sunday?

Let’s dig a little deeper and find out right now!

Does Amazon Deliver on Sunday?

Folks that love to shop on Amazon later in the week – we are talking those Thursday, Friday, Saturday shoppers in specific – are really going to love this news:

Amazon does in fact deliver on Sundays – though there is a catch!

We will get a little deeper into that in just a moment, but you will be glad to know that Amazon definitely delivers packages on Sunday. There aren’t a lot of other retailers out there (especially most of the major online retailers) that can offer Sunday style delivery, either.

This is a huge competitive advantage that Amazon leverages all the time. It’s a game changer for customers and something that all of them are happy to learn about.

Amazon DOES Deliver on Sunday – But Not Everywhere

As we just mentioned a second ago, Amazon is one of a handful of major retailers that actually offer delivery on Sunday – and certainly the biggest of the online retailers that makes this happen for their customers.

At the same time, though, not every Amazon order is going to be eligible for Sunday delivery. And not every Amazon customer is going to be able to take advantage of Sunday delivery options, either.

For starters, you should know that Amazon Sunday Delivery is available with every single Amazon order now.

That wasn’t always the case, though. Up until just recently (the last few years) the only orders that Amazon would try and deliver on a Sunday were orders that had been shipped via Amazon Prime.

“Normal” Amazon orders were held off and if they weren’t delivered on a Saturday that they wouldn’t be out for delivery until the following Monday (or maybe even a little later than that).

That’s no longer the situation, though.

Today every single Amazon order – Prime or not – is shipped with Sunday delivery as standard.

The wrinkle here, though, is that Amazon leverages both UPS and United States Postal Services (USPS) delivery solutions to get packages to their customers.

Depending on where you live in the country it may be UPS or it may be USPS handling your “last mile” delivery, actually getting your Amazon package to your doorstep.

Both of these companies are paid directly from Amazon to do these deliveries on Sunday, which is why most of their “regular” deliveries – especially with the USPS – aren’t going to be made on Sunday, too.

Most of the urban and suburban areas in the United States are fully eligible for Sunday delivery right now. Densely populated areas with plenty of USPS and UPS support and infrastructure are going to have no problem having their packages dropped off on Sunday.

It’s folks that live in more rural communities and more sparsely populated areas that may or may not be eligible for Sunday delivery.

Again, it really all comes down to the kind of infrastructure in place from the folks at UPS and USPS.

How Do I Know If Sunday Delivery is Available Here?

Thankfully, though, finding out if your package is eligible for Sunday delivery is relatively simple and relatively straightforward.

You don’t even have to leave Amazon to find out, even!

All you have to do is load your items up into your Amazon cart, go through the checkout process, and look at the “Review Items and Shipping” section before you finalize your payment.

This is where you’ll be provided with information for your delivery timeline. Your estimated delivery date is going to be highlighted in green, and you’re also going to see a window of time for you to complete your order in to lock that delivery date in place.

Right under that, though, is going to be a couple of radio buttons that allow you to select different Amazon delivery dates whenever eligible.

Sometimes you’re going to be able to choose a “Prime Day” where all of your packages for the week are delivered, regardless of the day that they have been ordered. This means that purchases made on a Monday might get held until a Wednesday to be delivered on a Friday alongside purchases made throughout the rest of the week, too.

Sometimes, though, you’ll be able to consolidate your orders and have packages held until everything is ready and good to go. This saves a little bit of time, little bit of energy, and a little bit of effort on everyone’s and – and it almost always earns you specialty Amazon credits, too.

If Sunday delivery is available as an option, though, you’ll find a radio button pop up that lets you choose Sunday.

Just know that Sunday delivery is only going to pop up if that fits your delivery window.

If you order on a Monday, for example, and you have Amazon Prime the odds are pretty good that you won’t find Sunday delivery as an option – even if it’s available in your area. Amazon will get your package to you faster than that.

If, on the other hand, you place your order on a Wednesday or later the odds are pretty good you’ll see Sunday delivery as an option if your area is eligible.

Just be sure to double check and you’ll be good to go!

Can I Select Sunday Delivery Specifically?

Like we mentioned a moment ago, you aren’t necessarily going to be able to select Sunday delivery specifically unless it is an available option depending.

Whether or not this option is made available will be dependent upon a variety of different circumstances, all of them tied into the specific order you are making.

For starters, the day of the week that you place your order will have a huge impact on whether or not Sunday delivery is available at all.

Like we mentioned a second ago, if you order on a Monday or a Tuesday the odds are pretty good that Sunday delivery will never pop up – just because Amazon can get your packages to you sooner than that.

If you order later in the week, though (especially around Wednesday or later) Sunday delivery is going to pop up pretty consistently.

Secondly, the kind of merchandise you are ordering will have a big impact on whether or not Sunday delivery is available.

Some items are always in stock at Amazon warehouses around the country and in your local area. These items may or may not be available for almost instant shipping. If that’s the case (and you order later in the week) you’re probably going to find Sunday delivery available for selection.

Other items, though, maybe sold from third-party vendors using the Amazon marketplace. Or maybe they are just rarer, more expensive, or huge and overweight items that require specialty services for delivery.

These items may or may not have Sunday delivery available as an option.

Finally, it comes down to your geographic area and population density as well as the kind of UPS and USPS services you have available there.

Some people (including those that live in more suburban and rural areas) may be close enough to well-built shipping infrastructure and can cash in on Sunday delivery. Other folks might not be so lucky!

Do I Have to Pay Extra for Sunday Delivery from Amazon?

The good news about Sunday delivery from Amazon, though, is that you aren’t going to have to pay any extra to take advantage of it when it becomes available.

Sunday delivery is available to every Amazon customer, regardless of whether or not you have a Prime account.

If your package can be delivered on Sunday and that’s when the delivery window lines up you’ll be good to go – that’s probably when your package will arrive. You don’t have two pay a premium to leverage this service.

Does Sunday Delivery Come Free with Prime?

Absolutely!

Amazon Prime customers aren’t going to have to pay any extra for shipping as a general rule (speedy shipping, at that). And they certainly aren’t going to be charged any extra for Sunday delivery, either.

There’s no reason to pay any extra to take advantage of Sunday shipping.

Who Handles These Amazon Sunday Deliveries?

Amazon has partnered with both the USPS and UPS to handle their shipping services.

It’s impossible to know exactly which of these shipping organizations are going to be handling your Amazon package specifically without knowing where you live, what the USPS/UPS coverage is like, and things of that nature.

As a general rule of thumb, though, you are pretty safe assuming that the folks that handle your every day Amazon packages are going to be the same ones that handle your Sunday delivery packages, too.

What Time Should I Expect My Sunday Delivery to Arrive?

Again, this is kind of hard to peg down for a variety of different reasons.

Where you live, how many Amazon packages are set to be delivered in your area that Sunday, how many drivers are working that day, and other things of that nature all come into play to determine when your Amazon package actually arrives.

Just know that most people are going to see their package arrive earlier in the day rather than later.

Because the USPS and UPS are only out there delivering Amazon packages on Sunday they aren’t handling their normal flow. This means drivers can get out early, get their deliveries done early, and get home early, too.

You might not get your Sunday package bright and early Sunday morning, but you’re definitely going to get it before dinner time.

Will I Be Able to Track My Sunday Delivery?

Definitely!

Your Sunday delivery is going to include all of the same tracking information that your standard Amazon deliveries would have.

You’ll be able to track your package through the Amazon website, the Amazon shopping mobile app (for both iOS and Android devices), as well as with any of the shipping information they’ve included for the USPS and UPS services directly.
