Amazon, one of the biggest retailers on the planet, is responsible for mailing out millions and millions of packages each and every single week. And while they do a great job of making sure that the overwhelming majority of those packages arrive exactly where they were supposed to, faster than most people expect – with or without Prime – every now and again packages get “lost in the shuffle”.
Sometimes goods arrive damaged or destroyed. Sometimes the wrong items arrive altogether! And sometimes, believe it or not, nothing arrives at all! Thankfully, those kinds of situations are very rare (incredibly rare) and getting even rarer – but they do still happen. You’ll want to be sure that you know exactly how to navigate these kinds of situations if you never received Amazon packages that were expected to be delivered (or even Amazon packages that have tracking information saying they’ve already arrived).
In this guide we breakdown the ins and the outs of what you need to do if your Amazon package never shows up. We cover the specific steps you’ll want to take to confirm that your package is missing, who you need to contact to figure out where your package is and when it might arrive, and what you need to do – and say – to Amazon to get a replacement sent out ASAP order get a full refund. Let’s jump right in.
I Never Received Amazon Package – What Should I Do?
If you haven’t yet received an Amazon package it doesn’t necessarily mean that your package was lost or destroyed (or even stolen). There are a bunch of different factors at play here, not the least of which is the fact that your Amazon package may not have even shipped out quite yet – even if you were expecting it with speedy Prime shipping a day or two ago. As we highlighted above, Amazon has a fantastic track record for making sure that all of their packages go out on time and on schedule, that their packages get in the hands of their customers as quickly as possible, and that their deliveries are accurate and reliable. At the same time, though, like any other huge company there’s always the potential for something to go a little bit sideways.
Maybe your Amazon invoice got “lost in the shuffle” somewhere in the fulfillment warehouse and your package has yet to be loaded up and sent out the door. Maybe your Amazon packages sitting on the loading dock waiting to be put on a truck simply because it fell off of a conveyor belt and wasn’t noticed for a little while. Maybe something else entirely happened that is delaying your package’s arrival. When you get right down to it, it’s important to understand that there are a bunch of different reasons your Amazon package may not have arrived just yet – most of them having absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with anything you could have done differently.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that you should just sit back, relax, and cross your fingers hoping that Amazon eventually sends you the package you are hoping for. No, there are a couple of things you can definitely do to get out ahead of things ASAP.
Review Your Amazon Order Information
For starters, you’re going to want to actually review your Amazon order information to see if there’s anything wrong or inaccurate.
Confirm the Recipient Name is Accurate
The first thing you’ll want to do is confirm that the recipient name on your package is accurate, that it is going to match the name of the person that will be accepting the package, and that it is spelled correctly as well. You’d be surprised at the amount of people that don’t double check this detailed only to discover later that Amazon used some of that information to reroute the package in a different direction, all because of a simple error at the start of the ordering process.
Double Check the Delivery Address
The next thing you’re going to want to do (and this is even more important than the step highlighted above) is double check the delivery address for the Amazon order you have been expecting. Lots of people have multiple addresses saved in their Amazon dashboard, making it easier to click different addresses to have packages shipped to different people – or to different locations (home, work, etc.). Perhaps the wrong address was used on a specific order and a package isn’t really “missing”, it’s just sent somewhere else that Amazon customers weren’t expecting. If you do find typos, errors, or any other issues with the address part of your order it’s important that you get a hold of Amazon ASAP to see what can be done to remedy the situation. You’re also going to want to make sure that you fix those typos, errors, and other issues in your Amazon dashboard so that those problems don’t bubble up ever again!
Check the Tracking Updates
Lastly, it’s a good idea to have a look at your tracking updates to see that your package was actually delivered, sent out for delivery the day you were expecting it, or that it is out for delivery right now. Plenty of people order lots of stuff from Amazon, mix up their tracking information on different orders, and then are expecting different packages to arrive just because of the confusion. You’d be amazed at the amount of people that have “lost” Amazon packages that simply haven’t shipped yet, that haven’t been delivered yet, and that aren’t officially out for delivery, either. Double check and confirm that your tracking information is correct – that your Amazon package has been marked as DELIVERED –-before you start going through the rest of the steps we highlight below.
Contact Amazon Customer Support
The next piece of the puzzle is to actually reach out to Amazon customer support directly and see if they can do something to help track down your package. You are going to have a couple of different contact points to get a hold of Amazon through, but the easiest method is probably their online live chat support. Phone support, mobile app support, and email support are all available as well.
Online Live Chat Support
The online live chat support tools Amazon provide are some of the best in the e-commerce business, really simple and straightforward to use, and super convenient. Simply log into your Amazon account (on your computer or your mobile app), going to your SETTINGS section, and then go to the HELP area. You can also get to the online live chat support tools by clicking on your order, clicking on the actual invoice itself, and then clicking on the NEED HELP? link provided.
Phone Support
Amazon customer service and support is available on a 24/7, 365 day a year basis, which is a huge benefit for folks that really need to get on the phone and talk to someone about their Amazon package going missing. This customer service department can be reached by dialing 1-888-280-4331, but there’s also live phone support links that can be found in the mobile apps for iOS and Android users as well. Just tell the customer service agent exactly what happened, which order on your Amazon account you are referencing, and when you were expecting your package and how you haven’t been able to find it yet. These are the pros that will be able to walk you through the process from start to finish, ending with you either getting a replacement expedited out to your address or a full refund (and sometimes both).
Mobile App Support
As we just mentioned a moment ago, there is customer service and support available through the mobile applications from Amazon for both iOS and Android users. These mobile apps are 100% free of charge, really easy to use and download, and work in an almost identical way to the “regular” online Amazon interface most folks are used to.
Email Support
Lastly, you can always email customer service and support if that’s the direction you want to go with. Just know that this is probably the slowest way to get real answers about Amazon packages that you haven’t received, though it does create a bit of a “paper trail” that jumping on the phone won’t ever produce. Contact forms for the email support Amazon offers can be found on their website as well as through the mobile app.
Contact the Shipping Company for More Information
Sometimes, however, it isn’t Amazon’s fault at all that your package has gone missing – but is instead the fault of the shipping company that was supposed to deliver that package to you.
USPS
The USPS handles a tremendous amount of Amazon orders on a day-to-day basis, even going so far as to deliver the Amazon packages on Saturday and Sunday (something they don’t usually do with traditional mail). If you need to get a hold of USPS customer service you’re going to want to call them directly at 1-800-275-8777. You can also contact the delivery tracking department of the USPS to help find your package from Amazon. They can be reached at 1-800-222-1811.
FedEx
FedEx is another premium shipping partner with Amazon, a really popular choice for customers that have a Prime membership, and one of the most trusted shipping companies in the United States (if not the entire world). You can get a hold of their customer service department by calling 1-800-463-3339. Let them know that you are calling about an Amazon order that you never received, share with them the tracking information that lines up with that order, and then they will be able to walk you through the rest of the process.
UPS
UPS is another premium shipping company that does a lot of business with Amazon, and they also might have been responsible for losing your package somewhere along the line. The customer service department of UPS can be reached by dialing 1-800-742-5877. They’ll be able to help you better understand what happened to your package, where it might be right now, and what you should do next.
Have a Look Around Your Home Again
Of course, it never hurts just to have another look around your home and your property (or wherever you were expecting your Amazon package to be delivered) just to confirm that it isn’t tucked away somewhere. Maybe the person you were expecting to drop off your Amazon package needed a day off, got shifted over to a new route, retired or got a new job, or just didn’t drop off the package where they normally do. Look again – and then double check, really being deliberate and methodical – to make sure that your package didn’t get dropped off in a “surprise location” you just weren’t considering at first.
Report an Amazon Order Stolen
It’s never pleasant to consider, but a reality of modern life is that there are plenty of folks out there that see Amazon packaging and just can’t help themselves – they have to help themselves to your package! Sometimes referred to as “porch pirates”, the amount of Amazon packages that have been stolen each year has been climbing higher and higher with no real end in sight. Maybe you consider purchasing a security camera that watches your porch or Amazon package drop off, something like the Ring service that is so popular right now. Maybe you just speak with your neighbors to have more eyeballs on everyone’s home when packages are delivered, sharing the workload to try and spot potential thieves just by working together.
At the end of the day, though, if you believe that you weren’t able to receive your Amazon order because of theft you’re going to want to contact the local authorities and your Police Department to file a report. From there you’ll want to reach out to Amazon directly, letting them know you believe that your items were stolen, and then going through the replacement or refund process.
